On February 27, 2026, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) received an application requesting a sunset review of the anti-dumping measures imposed on certain welding materials imported from Malaysia, Thailand, and China. The application was submitted by a group of enterprises representing the domestic industry engaged in the production of welding electrodes and industrial welding materials in Vietnam.
As of May 21, 2026, the application was confirmed to be complete and valid in accordance with Vietnam’s trade remedy regulations.
The products subject to the review include certain welding materials commonly used in mechanical engineering, shipbuilding, steel structures, industrial construction, and technical equipment manufacturing. These products play an important role in Vietnam’s industrial and manufacturing supply chains, particularly amid growing demand in infrastructure, energy, and industrial production sectors.
In recent years, the Vietnamese welding materials market has experienced significant competition from low-priced imported products, creating certain pressures on domestic manufacturers. As a result, developments in the case are considered likely to affect import activities, supply strategies, and the competitiveness of some enterprises operating in the mechanical engineering and industrial manufacturing sectors.
Under current regulations, within 30 days from the date of receipt of a complete and valid application, the investigating authority will examine the relevant information, documents, and evidence before submitting the matter to the competent authority for consideration and decision on whether to initiate the sunset review of the anti-dumping measures.
The sunset review aims to assess the likelihood of the continuation or recurrence of dumping practices if the existing measures are terminated, while also evaluating the extent of the impact on the domestic manufacturing industry.
To protect their legitimate interests, manufacturers and exporters should familiarize themselves with the procedure and actively contact Vietnam Antidumping Law Firm specializing in anti-dumping and trade remedy for timely assistance.
