According to a notice from the Australian Anti-Dumping Commission (ADC) and the Vietnam Trade Office in Australia, on April 7, 2026, the Australian Government announced that it had received an application requesting the initiation of an anti-dumping investigation into zinc-coated/galvanised steel imports from Vietnam and South Korea.
The products subject to the proposed investigation are classified under the following tariff codes: 7210.49.00, 7212.30.00, 7225.92.00, and 7226.99.00.
Currently, the ADC is reviewing the contents of the application to assess whether there are sufficient grounds to initiate a formal anti-dumping investigation.
Under Australian law, a decision on whether to proceed with a formal investigation must be made no later than April 20, 2026. The outcome of this review will determine whether the case will be officially initiated in the near future.
Recommendations for Vietnamese enterprises
In light of this development, Vietnamese exporters of galvanised steel to Australia are advised to closely monitor the review process conducted by the investigating authority and prepare response strategies in case the investigation is initiated.
Enterprises should review all export activities related to the above-mentioned tariff codes, particularly data on sales prices, production costs, and pricing structures, to ensure readiness in providing information upon request by the investigating authority.
In addition, proactive coordination with domestic trade remedy authorities is essential to stay updated and receive timely support during the case handling process. Enterprises are also encouraged to consider engaging experienced international legal counsel in anti-dumping cases to prepare documentation and develop appropriate defense arguments.
Furthermore, companies should reassess their export market strategies, enhance market diversification to reduce dependence on a single market, and develop business contingency plans in the event that anti-dumping duties are imposed.
Early and proactive preparation will help enterprises mitigate potential adverse impacts and strengthen their ability to safeguard legitimate rights and interests in international trade remedy cases.
To protect their legitimate interests, manufacturers and exporters should familiarize themselves with the procedure and actively contact Vietnam Antidumping Law Firm specializing in anti-dumping and trade remedy for timely assistance.
