In the context of discussions on the real estate market in Vietnam, Lawyer Nguyen Tien Hoa posed questions to speakers participating in the M&A Forum Vietnam 2023 about the difficulties and challenges they face when executing M&A deals or in the process of assessing the potential of M&A deals in Vietnam.
In response to the moderator’s question, Mr. Angus Liew, Chairman of the Council of Members of Gamuda Land Vietnam, stated that the real estate market in Vietnam remains highly attractive, with significant potential in residential real estate for the population, industrial real estate, and notably, Vietnam’s hospitality.
“This potential is clearly demonstrated in the numbers (in reports). As I mentioned earlier, the population is a crucial factor. Legal and governmental factors are gradually easing. These aspects are reasons why Vietnam is becoming increasingly attractive to foreign investors when investing in Vietnam.
Certainly, Vietnam still has legal aspects that hinder development, such as certain laws affecting real estate and M&A. In particular, regulations for these two aspects undergo changes and minor additions at regular intervals, slowing down the progress of M&A deals.
For Gamuda Land, based on our experience established over a long period in Vietnam, we understand the challenges and consequently, turning them into potential opportunities. From my perspective, Vietnam’s hospitality, openness, and willingness to embrace are the main reasons for attracting 16 million investments into Vietnam annually.
This is a place that can attract many deals based on factors such as the environment, business culture, market receptiveness, even for challenging markets like the United States.”
Despite numerous favorable factors, some foreign investors have expressed that when entering the Vietnamese market, they find themselves overwhelmed by challenging and expedited decisions that need to be issued. This is a common situation for the majority of foreign investors.
At this point, they should engage with experienced legal consulting firms specializing in M&A in Vietnam and internationally to seek assistance and advice based on their experience and understanding of the legal and business culture in Vietnam.
