On November 7, 2024, the Indonesian Safeguards Committee (KPPI) initiated an investigation to extend global safeguard duties on certain garment products.
It has been reported that the investigation covers products under 131 HS codes. On October 22, 2021, the Indonesian Ministry of Finance issued a decision imposing global safeguard duties on garment products. The duty period was set for three years, with declining rates each year, as follows:
- First year: Maximum 63,000 IDR per product (approximately 4.43 USD per product) and minimum 19,260 IDR per product (approximately 1.36 USD per product);
- Second year: Maximum 59,850 IDR per product (approximately 4.21 USD per product) and minimum 18,297 IDR per product (approximately 1.29 USD per product);
- Third year: Maximum 56,858 IDR per product (approximately 4 USD per product) and minimum 17,382 IDR per product (approximately 1.22 USD per product).
To register as an interested party, companies must submit a written request to KPPI no later than November 15, 2024. The application should include essential information such as name, address, email, phone number, and fax number.
Furthermore, to facilitate the expression of opinions regarding the investigation, KPPI has announced that it will hold a hearing on November 21, 2024, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm (Indonesia time), allowing parties to present evidence and arguments.
